About Benefit Pest Management

Benefit Pest Management is owned and run by Nathan Rich and Gabbie Mooney. Nathan got into pest control at 22 years of age, in Dubbo, and started this business in 2021, having grown up in two houses that both had termites. We work across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter. Nathan holds pest management technician licence 5083379, and he was named Pest Technician of the Year in 2025.

We get back to every enquiry within one business day.

Why we started Benefit Pest Management

This part is mine, so I will tell it in my own words. Everywhere else on this site, “we” means the three of us.

Our place growing up had termites. So did the second family home. The first time around, a bloke came out, had a look, and told my mother everything was fine. It was not fine. By the time anyone worked that out, the damage was done and the money to fix it had to come from somewhere.

I have thought about that inspection more than is probably healthy. He was not a bad person. He just was not thorough, and my mother had no way of knowing the difference, because how would she? You get told everything is fine and you are relieved and you get on with your life.

I got into the trade at 22, working for a family-owned pest company in Dubbo with my best mates’ family. Country town, country work, farms and houses and sheds. I learned it properly because they made me learn it properly.

I started Benefit so I could give people the best quality work at a fair price, and do it the way it should be done. I truly want to protect people’s houses, because I know exactly what it costs when nobody does. What I want is to help and look after as many people as possible.

Nathan

Founder, Benefit Pest Management

Two family homes. Both had termites.

One inspection said everything was fine. It was not. That is the whole reason this business exists.

Who runs Benefit Pest Management

Nathan Rich and Gabbie Mooney own the business together. They are married, they have a young family, and Benefit is a very large part of their life. Pest control is not what most households discuss over dinner. In theirs it is completely normal.

Nathan does the field work, takes the calls and handles the quoting. If you ring, you are speaking to the person who will be crawling through your subfloor, and you will probably learn more about termites than you were expecting to.

Gabbie runs the business in the background: the bookings, the admin and the accounts. She is the reason customers are looked after so well, from the confirmation when you book through to the reminder the day before.

The business has traded since 2021 and incorporated in 2023. The ambition has not moved in that time:

We don't want to be the biggest, and we won't be the cheapest. We simply want to be the best.

A licensed pest technician, and the number is on this page

Nathan holds pest management technician licence 5083379, issued by the New South Wales EPA. The licence belongs to the technician, not the business, which is why the number on this page is his.

He qualified through a two-year traineeship, on the tools the whole way. Two years of being shown, corrected, and sent back under the house to do it again properly. Not a short course with the answers handed out at the end.

That is where the useful part of this job actually lives. Knowing the Latin name of a cockroach is one thing. Knowing why it is in that particular kitchen, and what will genuinely shift it, is the part that takes years to learn.

Meet the team

Founder, technician

Nathan Rich

Founder, and does the technical work: inspections, termite management, quoting, and most of the phone calls. He is from Dubbo and was named Pest Technician of the Year in 2025 by Australian Pest Managers magazine. He also keeps a preserved termite nest in a display box, which tells you most of what you need to know about him.

Co-owner, operations

Gabbie Mooney

Co-owns the business and runs everything that is not a spray unit. When a review mentions how well the communication was handled, and they do constantly, that is Gabbie.

Technician

Isaiah Thomas

Who everyone calls Izzy, is our technician. He came out of air conditioning installation, which turns out to be useful training for crawling into roof voids and subfloors nobody has visited in a decade. He handles general pest work.

Preserved, and brought out for anyone who wants to see what was living under a house.

Not always a clean job.

Nathan, at the end of one. Most of this trade happens somewhere you would rather not crawl.

"You can shear a sheep many times, but you can only skin it once"

An old country saying, and the closest thing this business has to a rule.

You can look after someone for twenty years, or you can take everything you can get from them once. We are not here for a quick buck, we want long-lasting relationships. Every client knows our sole intention is to protect their property the best way possible.

In practice that shows up in small, unprofitable decisions.

Telling somebody they do not need the work.

Selling a customer a tube of ant gel rather than booking three return visits.

Rescheduling a treatment because rain is forecast and it would be wasted, which costs us the day but gets the job done properly.

What Benefit Pest Management won't do

Three things, and they cost us money.

We will not sign off on work we are not qualified for.

We have been told to get a building inspector licence more times than we can count. The answer has been no every time, because morally we cannot do it. We do the pest half of a pre-purchase inspection and we tell you to get a builder for the rest.

Nothing gets sold here that does not work.

Electronic repellers and electromagnetic devices are the obvious examples. They sell well and they do nothing, so we do not stock them.

Price is not where we compete.

There is a cheaper spray available and there always will be. We would rather explain what the difference buys you and let you decide, which is what our services page does at length.
