Pest control in Singleton
Singleton Council covers 4,893 square kilometres and had about 23,000 people at the 2016 census, fewer than five to the square kilometre. That much land to each household makes for rural properties, with sheds, yards and fence lines around the house.

Homesteads, sheds and fence lines

Termite damage eaten into a tree trunk.
Acreage is booked as rural and farm pest control, and that page sets out what a visit takes in.
The homestead further down this page needed termite treatment once the damage was found.
Fence posts and shed stumps are checked alongside the house in a termite inspection. Leave a colony in a stump or a fence-line tree and it will find the shed next, then the house.

Termite inspections on rural properties around Singleton
Out here the colony is often living somewhere other than the building it is eating, which is why the inspection covers the whole property rather than the house alone. A Singleton property with sheds and yards gets the same inspection as any rural pest control job, booked long enough to take in every building on it. Thermal imaging and moisture detection are included in every termite inspection.
The Australian Standard sets inspection intervals at no more than twelve months. In a high-pressure area, along the coast or anywhere with high humidity, we recommend every six months.

When do we get to Singleton?
On scheduled days rather than a standing one. A Singleton job goes onto the next scheduled day with room for it, and more notice means more dates to pick from. Live termites come off that system altogether and go in ahead of the routine jobs. A call on the morning of a run day goes onto the one after.
Our busiest months are December to March, so a job that can wait until autumn is easier to fit in. If yours cannot, ring now, not next month.
What the booking call covers
There is no call-out fee and the price is fixed before anything starts. How long the visit runs depends on how many buildings are on the place, so that is the number we ask for when you call. Bookings are taken seven days a week. Mobile signal drops out across a lot of the country around Singleton, so if the call will not hold, the form on the contact page reaches the same people.

About
The homestead job
The top plates of a homestead between Singleton and the lower Hunter were about 80% eaten out. They are the timber along the tops of the walls that carries the roof, and the room under them was a child’s bedroom. Damage there usually only shows from inside the roof void. The nest now sits in a display box. A whole-property inspection like that one is explained on our rural pest control page, and termite treatment covers what taking the nest out involved.

Local questions
Common questions on pest control in Singleton
Is Singleton part of your Upper Hunter run?
Yes, along with Muswellbrook and the towns further up the valley.
Is a property outside Singleton inspected differently from a house in town?
Yes, in the time we book. A house in town is a single building, and a homestead out at Bulga or Jerrys Plains gets time for everything standing on it.
How long does a termite inspection take on a place with several buildings?
Longer than the 90 minutes a standard house takes, and how much longer comes down to the number of buildings. We book enough time that the last shed is not rushed.
What happens if it rains on the day you are booked to come up?
A spray gets moved, and you hear about it before the day, not after we have driven up. Rain washes a fresh treatment off, which would leave you paying for a second one, so we would sooner lose the day. An inspection is a different job, and a wet day usually does not stop it.
Does every shed add to the price?
Yes, because each building adds time. The price follows how many buildings there are and how easily we can get into and around each one, and the whole property is priced as one visit rather than a visit per building. A house in town with a garage is a smaller job than a homestead with sheds and yards around it.
Up and down the valley
North up the valley, Muswellbrook is the next town. Cessnock and the vineyards lie to the south-east. The service areas page covers everywhere else we work.

Book the house and the sheds in one go
On a rural property, the sheds go on the same visit as the homestead, and so does the fence line.
